Airport Self-Service Procedure FAQs

1. Who can use Air China's self-service check-in kiosks at the airport?
A: Adult passengers who have purchased electronic ticket on an Air China-operated flight, who have made no changes to their flight and who have a definite flight number can use Air China’s self-service check-in kiosks at the airport. For the time being, Air China’s self-service check-in kiosks are available for check-in for domestic, international and regional flights originating from selected cities. Special passengers including VIP passengers, injured or sick passengers, disabled passengers, injured and disabled revolutionary servicemen and policemen, pregnant women, children, unaccompanied elders and passengers with special meal requests do not qualify to use the self-service check-in kiosks.

2. Do tickets purchased via travel agencies or sales agents qualify for check-in on self-service check-in kiosk?
A: Electronic tickets for Air China-operated flights purchased via any channel qualify for self-service check-in kiosks.

3. If my ticket involves a flight by another carrier, can I use the self-service check-in kiosk at the airport for check-in?
A: Self-service check-in devices can only be used for Air China-operated flights.

4. Do China domestic/international/regional-to-China domestic connecting flights qualify for check-in on self-service check-in kiosks?
A: Yes, they do. For each flight segment a boarding pass can be printed.

5. Do group reservations qualify for check-in on self-service check-in kiosks?
A: Yes, they do. Kiosks are available to self-service check-in for group reservations, but each individual passenger in the group can only check in one by one.

6. Does the kiosk support self-service check-in for a number of passengers?
A: Yes, it does. The kiosk can be used for self-service check-in for up to three passengers at the same time.

7. When are the self-service check-in kiosks at the airport available for use?
A: The service hours of self-service check-in kiosks vary by airport. For more Information Inquiry, see the “List of Cities with Self-Service Check-in kiosks and Service Hours”.

8. Why can't I print my boarding pass?
A: Printing problems may be caused by problems related to the Information Inquiry you have entered. If you are unable to print your boarding pass, please complete the check-in steps first and then have your boarding pass printed at the Air China-designated counter at the airport of origin.

9. What should I do if my boarding pass is lost?
A: You should have your boarding pass printed again at the Air China-designated counter at the airport of origin. You must identify yourself with your valid ID.

10. How should I check my baggage after completing the check-in steps on the self-service check-in kiosk?
A: You can check your baggage at an airport check-in counter. (1) You should check your baggage before the check-in deadline of your flight. Check-in deadlines are released by the local airports. (2) Dimensions of carry-on baggage: Each passenger is allowed to take only one piece of carry-on baggage (except First Class passengers who can take two pieces of carry-on baggage), with each piece not exceeding 20×40×55 cm in length, width and height and not exceeding 5kg in weight. (3) If there are any changes to your checked baggage, please contact the duty manager counter as soon as possible.

11. How can I obtain my itinerary/receipt of e-ticket for air transportation after check-in on self-service check-in kiosk?
A: 1. At the time of ticket purchase, you may ask the seller to provide the itinerary/receipt of e-ticket for air transportation which can be used for reimbursement purposes. 2. If you purchase your ticket on Air China's website, you may request your itinerary/receipt of e-ticket for air transportation at the Air China counter at the airport of origin. 3. The itinerary/receipt of e-ticket for air transportation can be issued only once.

12. Why does the “Boarding Gate” box on the boarding pass show “Not Assigned”?
A: If you have completed your check-in on self-service check-in kiosk very early and the boarding gate has not been assigned, you are requested to check the departure time and boarding gate of your flight through flight Information Inquiry displays or check with our staff at the airport.

13. What should I do if I need to change flight or need being endorsed onto another carrier after I have completed check-in on self-service check-in kiosk at the airport?
A: Air China provides flight change and endorsement services based on the passenger name record (PNR) of your e-ticket displayed in the departure control system and the computer reservation system.
